Re-Enabling Paid Subscriptions
A few years ago I had the idea for doing an optimistic science fiction serialization. I figured I could publish essentially one chapter a month with some paid side stories. I had a lot on my plate at the time and I never did get around to even that cadence. I ended up focusing on fantasy writing and only recently did I get back into this newsletter.
With more free time this year, I figured I could publish one a week, and so far I have been able to do that and get a few weeks ahead.
At the start of the year I had 15 ideas for short stories to write here. After checking off a few, I now have 31. So it’s clear that doing one a week is not going to be enough, and my time management has improved.
As such, I’m turning paid subscriptions back. Everyone will continue to get free stories every Thursday, but I will be posting additional stories on Tuesday for paid subscribers only.
I have bigger plans. If this takes off, I’ll be able to use the subscriptions to commission more art for each story. I could start up a discussion forum to talk about more speculative fiction during the week. I could invite guest writers to write occasionally. I could really start to experiment with different concepts and ideas with a bit more freedom.
If you enjoy the free stories, you should definitely subscribe. As an added incentive, I’m giving a 50% off discount for life up through the end of June. Substack has an official minimum price for subscribers, but I hope this offer will encourage people to take advantage of it now.
If you want to wait and see, I encourage you to sign up for the two-month free trial. At one bonus story a week, that gets you around 8 additional sci-fi stories so you can see if you really want to commit to a full subscription. If you start the free trial today, you’ll still have time to use the founders lifetime discount above.
I really believe the future is going to be more interesting than ever. The number of stories which could be told, the number of ideas and possibilities can go on for a long time. I hope you’ll be as excited to read these stories as I am to write them.
